2021

full-hearted

Welcome

In 2021, we are back with full-hearted vigour.

On offer, is a season of 8 performances full of heart, passion and the iconic, explosive energy for which shake & stir has become so well known. Along with performances, we have revised our engagement opportunities with a slew of new masterclasses as well as extensive online resources.

Having access to high-quality, live entertainment not only assists young people with their academic education, it helps shape them as thinking, feeling human beings. When adversity strikes, humans turn to the arts for comfort. The arts cocoon us. They engage, challenge and enlighten us.

We look forward to sharing our art and a happy and healthy 2021 with you.

And of course, thank you for your support throughout this year – from the bottom of our hearts.

ROMEO & JULIET

A tale of two young lovers, trapped in their social roles, struggling to be heard in a world drowning in conflict, intolerance and hate. In this reimagined version, the live action is contrasted against retrospective on-screen interviews with the play’s minor characters allowing these key players to consider what they would have done differently, had they their time again.
When your first true love is also, devastatingly, your last.

IN THE CAULDRON

Reality TV. So over-cooked right? Wrong. Welcome to Masterchef, Shakespeare style. Combining scenes from some of the Bard’s most-studied plays, In The Cauldron takes lashings of imagination, a sprinkle of irreverence, some carefully chopped themes and a healthy slug of Shakespeare and slow cooks for 50 minutes. The results are both surprising and delicious.

FRACTURED FABLES

Did you know – Aesop wrote over 700 fables way back in the 6th century BCE, many of which have inspired countless retellings over time? It’s time to dust some of our faves off and repackage them for young audiences in 2021. Fables may be steeped in history and flush with comical characters, but their iconic messages remain the reason why generations have and will continue to share them around.
