Leading Puppetry

Teacher Professional Development

Equipping educators with the tools to lead puppetry and visual theatre units within a school context is a core part of the Dead Puppet Society Education program. We have developed a deeply practical approach to scaffolding the learning and skills development of students while also offering a clear pedagogy for teachers to apply within their own classrooms.

Dead Puppet Society offers teachers the chance to be guided through our methodology of visual theatre and design-led practice, and offers a crash course in the skills needed to support school students in the areas of puppetry, contemporary performance, visual theatre, and ensemble performance.

A professional development session will give teachers a hands-on practical learning opportunity to cover the following areas:

Introduction to Puppetry and Manipulation
Introduction to Abstract and Object Puppetry
Devising for Visual Theatre
Storyboarding and Stagecraft
Puppet Construction
Shadow Play
Visual Theatre Conventions and how to approach them
Directing for Visual Theatre and Ensemble Performance
